Since arriving here almost seven years ago, we have been severely challenged gardening wise. The soil here is heavy clay, and for the first couple of years we struggled, having plants continually die after we seemingly cared well for them, watering them weekly and fertilising them.
This last year, we have been taking the unusual step of removing the heavy clay soil from around the planting area and replacing it with potting mix, and yes, it really worked. It might seem a bit drastic, but when you keep losing plants, it can become really expensive and VERY frustrating.
ALL of the plants that we have planted using this method are thriving and growing really well. The difference - only the soil that they are growing in - just like us, if we are planted in the good soil - reading and acknowledging God's Word and praying, we will thrive and grow and bear much fruit.
And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

So very true Jillian, we can survive in this world but not thrive unless we are planted firmly in Him.
Luv Donna
Our soil is like yours. We literally brought good soil in by the truckload. Cheaper than bags of potting mix but the result is the same. I have lots of big sturdy trees now & can get my understory up & running.
I think gardeners understand a lot of parallels with God's word. We see the results first hand. ☺
I want to bear fruit as well!
As for our yard, I grew up in Iowa where the topsoil is rich so smugly refused to "purchase dirt" here in Mass. where they grow rocks. Nothing for all our efforts. Thank God we have a grocery and I wasn't relying on this year's harvest.
That plant is beautiful. What is it? We've dealt with clay soil the exact same way.
May we all tend our lives so that we may thrive, grow, and bear much fruit in the name of our Lord and Savior.
Hi Donna,
It's so important to hear God's Word and "Do it"! :)
Have a great week,
Blessings,
Jillian
Hi Ganeida,
The only soil that we can buy locally is worse than what we already have, so hence the potting mix. :P
Have a great week,

Hi Richele,
Living for God is great, isn't it?
You grow rocks??? Is the soil that poor where you live?
Have a great week,

Hi Devildogwife,
I'm so glad that someone else has dealt with heavy clay soil the same way.
I am really happy when living my life for God, and everything tends to just fall into place when we rely on Him. :D
The plant that you asked about is a Callistemon Kings Park Special (Bottlebrush), is an Australian native and they thrive in heavy clay soils. :)
If you put your pointer over my photos, there is a title for each one of the later ones. :D
Have a great week,

That does look gorgeous. Like most things, if you put in the hard work you reap the rewards. As in the example of our thriving *or otherwise) spiritual lives.
Have a good weekend and a blessed and delightful Lord's day.
Hi Ruby,
My daughter and I are reading the Bible chronologically each morning for a year, and it is really blessing us. :)
Have a wonderful Lord's day, too. :D
Blessings,
Jillian
We, too, have that heavy clay soil. Last year, we began gardening in raised beds filled with a soil mix and had such a lovely harvest.
The analogy to our spiritual lives was one that I will share with our boys tomorrow. So glad you shared!
Blessings, Lea
Hi Lea,
We have improved the soil in the vegetable patch, and we have a lovely harvest of sweetcorn coming on.
The front garden has been a different proposition, though, as it is so large. Potting mix, where the plants are, is a much more viable option.
I'm glad that you liked the analogy. :)
Thank you for visiting my blog.
Have a great week,
Blessings,
Jillian
