Today was an absolutely delightful day - we spent the day making necklaces and bracelets while our friend, Gwenda spent the majority of the day card-making. Later on this afternoon she also took my daughter for a short walk, and when they arrived home, they spent the rest of the afternoon doing crossword puzzles and other assorted puzzles, such as word searches.
Gwenda has been and continues to be a real treasure to our family, and we praise God for her friendship. Gwenda is one of the very few people who I see Jesus mirrored in, and she works so hard for everybody else that it's wonderful to be able to give her a holiday where she doesn't have to do anything - no cooking, no dishes, no washing or ironing and no cleaning. She is just here to rest and recuperate and have fellowship with us.
Sometimes serving God can mean just providing a place where a servant of God can unwind with friends, and she's no trouble at all to have here. The Bible verse below describes our friend, Gwenda to a tee, and we love her with all our ♥.
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient.
2 Timothy 2: 24

Friends are such a blessing, aren't they?
Sounds like you had a lovely day of fellowship. What a blessing to all involved to be able to open your home to others as a place of peace and rest.
Good friends are rare; great ones rarer yet. You are blessed.
Lid asked me to pass along the link to her *missions blog* ~http://takeeveryoppotunitywithbothhands.blogspot.com/

They are lovely necklaces and cards :-) When we create things we immitate God!
Lovely creative work! and a lovely special friend you have.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them. Eph 2 :10
You are truly blessed to have a friend like that. The necklaces look great!
Hi Therese,
They certainly are, and I give praise and thanks to God each and every day for the friends that He has connected me with. :)

It certainly is wonderful to be able to open our home for people who serve God to be able to come for rest. ♥

Hi Sarah,
Isn't it wonderful to be able to spend time with our daughters, giving them of our time and our love? Our children grow up all too quickly. :P

Hi Kylie,
I hadn't thought of it like that, but when we create, we do mirror God in His creation.
Thank you for sharing that thought with me. :D

Hi Ruby,
Our friend, Gwenda, has been a special friend for the last sixteen years, and we do treasure her. :)
I love creating, but creating with friends is sooo special.

Hi Jillian,
I've been away for over a week...and I don't see that you've blogged. Are you okay? Everything alright?
I was thinking the same thing, Jillian, just today. Miss you.
Hi Susan,
No, everything went very pear-shaped for a while. My mum was in hospital, and at the same time, Gwenda was also in hospital. :P
Gwenda was sick when she came over here, and she deteriorated during her stay, so we phoned her doctor and then took her into the local doctors.
Things here have been frantic for a while, but fortunately they are starting to settle down.
Gwenda and my mum are both out of hospital now. Praise God for His provision over us. He never gives us more than we are able to handle, but sometimes it just seems like it. :/
Thank you for caring,
God bless you,
Jillian
Oh yeah, I know that feeling- life often seems like it is more than we can bear but it isn't...but it is that I often let go of His peace and then get overwhelmed. (For me, not necessarily speaking of your situation).
Sorry to hear of the dramas :/
Hi Susan,
Do you ever feel as if life is going by at an alarming rate?
I look at the calendar and there is nearly a month gone by already of 2010, and I wonder what have I achieved that is going to matter in eternity???
Have a great week,
Blessings,
Jillian
Oh yes and not. I remember blogging once about feeling how my days can seem to drag on but the years are flying by!
I look at the Hebrews who didn't necessarily fill their days with the 'urgent' but they often seemed to plod on, doing 'the next thing' but doing it well.
The more relationships I am involved in, the more I have a sense of the eternal. Does that make sense? It's easy for me to sit here (the puter) and lose all sense of eternity- oh I can talk about it and read about it but a real sense of it. KWIM?
But when I am involved with people, non believers, is when I really sense that my time and energy is put to good use, as in service to God. Not because I am speaking Scripture at them all the time, but by the building of relationships with them - earning (hopefully) some trust so that one day I might have opportunity to speak words of grace and life to them (proclaiming the gospel)
But that's me...and where God has put me (you know, the whole 'bloom where you are planted' thing ;) )
