Major Meltdown - Well, Nearly!

This afternoon we had major dramas in our home - my computer was having a meltdown, literally. We had this funny smell in the schoolroom, and we really couldn't find where it was coming from. Was someone spraying outside - highly unlikely, as it is harvest time, not seedtime? Was the smell emanating from the new computer monitors - no, not from there, either.

We escaped down to the kitchen for lunch, and I came back into the schoolroom to open the window and hopefully get rid of the smell of burning plastic when I wondered if it was my computer power supply fan. Sure enough, that's what it was - the case of the computer was that hot that it nearly took the skin off my husband's hands. I thought, "This is a good start to the school holidays", but my husband had the situation well in hand. He disappeared for a short while and came back with another power supply box. Aha, it was from the last time that we had to replace the power supply, but the fan was still good. Oops, I shall never again complain about the stuff that my husband keeps - as he keeps telling me, it will come in useful one day, and he was right, but shhh, don't tell him - he might decide to keep anything and everything, and that would never do.

Computer Power Supply
Hairclip

If you look carefully inside the power supply box, you can see a black piece of plastic (fan) in the back right corner, and that was the culprit for my computer overheating - it just stopped working. My computer is now super fast again, but it had been getting slower and slower. My husband only commented yesterday that my computer was very quiet. Hmmm...if your computer is a Pentium, and it suddenly goes quiet, make sure that your fan is working - it should be blowing cool air out of the back of your computer.

That's not the only thing that he has fixed in the last twenty four hours - he also fixed my daughter's hairclip that she uses in the shower to keep her hair from getting wet. Apparently he kept the last broken one just in case it should come in handy, and in this one the spring holders broke, so he made one out of two.

Praise God for my husband whose name should be "Mr Fixit", 'cause if he can't fix something, it's definitely beyond repair.

Hubby takes our computer box out to the shed regularly to blow the dust out with the air compressor. He checks that the fan is working okay then.

Lucky you were at home at the time.

So glad you caught it when you did. With my hubby doing computer work for a living, I hear about fans and power supplies-A LOT!

Great job to your husband! I too have learned to not say anything about what mine keeps as he is also a McGyver of sorts.

Hi Tania,
Sign - there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day.

You have a clever husband. :)

We don't leave the computers on while we're out, or when we're not using them for that matter. They cost too much to run (electricity).

Blessings,
Jillian

Hi Therese,
Yes, it was very definitely a blessing - this is the third power supply that this computer has had. :P

Have a great weekend,

Jillian

Hi Richele,
I shall pass the words of encouragement on to my husband. :)

When we were first married, I said to my husband that he would never need half of the stuff in his shed (at his mum's), but as soon as he threw it out, guess what - yes, he needed it. :/ I have learned to keep my mouth shut. :P

Have a great weekend,
Blessings,
Jillian

Dear Jillian,
What a clever husband you have. I also have a husband who keeps things because they may come in handy some day.
BTW thank you for the encouraging visits. They really make my day, even though I am not as active 'around the traps' as much as I want to be.
You are a great inspirartional friend.
I am very thankful
Blessings

Dear Jillian,
I forgot to say I LOVE the new profile photo of you. Very beautiful and I can now picture you in my mind. I like to do that as I visit friends.
God Bless

Hi Gae,
I used to really hate all of the mess in my husband's shed, but these days I am just thankful for all the money that he saves us with his unwanted "junk".

Thank you - I enjoy reading your blog, and it is your inspiration that amazes me - with all of the children that you have, you still find time to blog.

Some other friends commented that they would like to be able to see the person that they are "talking" to. :)

Have a great weekend,
Blessings,
Jillian
