What Next - Square Watermelon?

I thought that my son was having me on when he said that you can buy square watermelons. However, he persisted and eventually I went to Snopes, and guess what - there really are square watermelons, and they have a practical application. They are placed in square, tempered glass cases while the fruit is still growing on the vine. Apparently, in Japan there is a lack of space, and they stack better in supermarkets and in the home refrigerator. They're not cheap, though, with a square watermelon being priced at $82, and the normal round counterpart coming in at $15-$25.

Apparently, you can also buy square tomatoes, too - what next - square eggs? Now that would be something!

And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:12

I put this on my blog when I first started blogging. I will look for the link later and post it.

Oh wow. Okay, that is one of the most peculiar looking things that I have seen in a Very Long Time. How strange! LOL

Hi Therese,
I couldn't believe that there were square watermelons. They sound too expensive for us, though.
